Research trip to Indonesia and India

I’m very excited (and nervous!) to go to Indonesia and India in the new year. I have decided to quit my job and go on a textile and craft inspired trip to feed the soul. The red line will of course be handkerchiefs and I hope to learn many techniques and collaborate with craftspeople to make unique handkerchiefs.

I will be learning batik in Yogyakarta and hope to collaborate with young contemporary batik artists there. Then I will go to Bali and learn a bit about natural dyeing and then on to Lake Toba to a Batak weaving centre to learn how to weave.

Then on to India where I will visit the Kinnal village in Karnataka where I was 11 years ago to take part in an art project. After that I plan to do some block printing, textile dyeing with a bamboo pen, weaving and possibly some tie dyeing.

I will keep you posted and if you have any links or ideas of places I should visit I would love to hear from you!
